Meet Johnny Toussaint

I rewired myself. That's how I know it works.

In the words of the judge, I'd been in handcuffs "more than a lot." At 29, it caught up with me: a federal drug conspiracy charge and 48 months in federal prison. I did my time.

When I came home, the hustle was still in me. Steady work was hard to find, and I wanted to really take care of my family. Then I found the trades. I didn't have to kill the hustle. I had to rewire it: same drive, new direction. Around 35, I became an electrician.

Today I'm a journeyman electrician, a veteran, a single father, and a leader in my community. I built The Guiding Hands Initiative because I've lived every step of what we teach. I'm not selling a theory.

What We Do

The 12-Week Program: Coming Soon

A 12-week electrical pre-apprenticeship for adults 18 and up who are ready to work, including people coming home. You get a licensed journeyman instructor, a mentor beside you from day one to graduation, NSTC safety training, and your own tools and gear. There's no cost to you. Grants, sponsors and partners cover every seat. Get on the list for the first class below.

How It Works

1. Apply. Fill out the short application or call 907-744-5430. No wrong answers.

2. Train for 12 weeks, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with a licensed journeyman and a mentor from day one.

3. Get paid $25 an hour for showing up on time and finishing.

4. Step into the trade: apprenticeship and job help, plus 6 months of follow-up after you graduate.

Who is it for? Adults 18 and up in the Anchorage area who are ready to work, including people coming home.

Does my record stop me? No. This program was built for people starting over. I came home too.

What does it cost? No cost to you. Grants, sponsors and partners cover every seat.

Do I need experience? No. We start from zero. You bring the drive.

No ID or no ride? Tell us. We'll help you get an ID and get to class.
